Veterans commit suicide at an alarming rate in the United States today. More than 22 veterans commit suicide every day. That is 1 every 65 minutes. 1 in 3 combat veterans are diagnosed with PTSD. Due to a combination of factors, including PTSD and depression, 1/3 of our nation’s homeless population are veterans.
By providing service dogs to veterans, we can help prevent suicides, enrich relationships with others, reduce homelessness, and decrease the needs for medication. Service dogs can help veterans with their moods, remind them to take medication, and even bringing them water from the fridge.
Even veterans without PTSD can benefit from our program. We’ve teamed up with Woods Humane Society to provide a no cost shelter dog to any active member of the military or veteran. These companion dogs can help enrich a persons life exponentially!
